Dunstanburgh Castle

๐Ÿฐ Castle๐Ÿ“ Northumberland

Dunstanburgh Castle is a vast, romantic ruin set on a remote headland of the Northumberland coast. Begun in the early 14th century by the Earl of Lancaster, it was once one of the largest castles in northern England before slowly falling to ruin. Today its broken gatehouse towers rise dramatically from grazing land and basalt cliffs, reached by a bracing coastal walk from Craster with seabirds wheeling overhead.

Best for walkers who like their history with a sea breeze.
