Cobham Wood and Mausoleum
Hidden among the ancient oaks and chalk grassland of Cobham Wood, the Darnley Mausoleum is a striking eighteenth-century funerary monument built for the Earls of Darnley to a design by James Wyatt. Curiously, it was never actually used for a burial, and by the twentieth century it had fallen into a vandalised wreck before a major restoration brought it back. Walking the woodland trails to find it feels like stumbling on a lost temple in the trees.
