Buttermere and Ennerdale
Buttermere and Ennerdale lie in the quieter western Lake District, ringed by high fells such as Haystacks and Great Gable. Buttermere's lake offers a near-level circuit with reflections of the surrounding ridges, while neighbouring Ennerdale is the focus of a long-running rewilding project allowing nature to take the lead. Together they form some of the most peaceful walking country in the national park.
