Aira Force
Aira Force is one of the Lake District's most dramatic cascades, dropping through a steep wooded gorge towards the shore of Ullswater. Victorian paths, arboretum plantings and two stone bridges built by the Howard family frame the falls from above and below. The surrounding estate of glades and ancient trees shelters red squirrels and was an early inspiration for William Wordsworth's poetry.
