Dalton Castle
Dalton Castle is a sturdy 14th-century pele tower raised by Furness Abbey during the age of cross-border Scottish raids. For centuries it acted as the abbey's administrative centre, courthouse and prison, keeping that role long after the monasteries fell. Inside, displays cover the town's history and the tower's dual life as a stronghold and a place of justice.
