Cartmel Priory Gatehouse
Cartmel Priory Gatehouse was raised around 1330 as the entrance to an Augustinian priory founded in 1190. When the priory was dissolved in 1536 the gatehouse survived because it doubled as the manor courthouse, later serving as a grammar school for well over a century. Its first-floor Great Room remains, a rare and atmospheric medieval survival in the centre of the village.
