Figsbury Ring
Figsbury Ring crowns a chalk ridge a few miles from Salisbury in Wiltshire. Long thought an Iron Age hillfort, finds of Neolithic pottery suggest its sub-circular earthworks may have begun far earlier, perhaps as a causewayed enclosure or henge. Today it is open grassland rich in chalk flowers and butterflies, a quiet Site of Special Scientific Interest with long views across the surrounding downs.
