Compton Castle
Compton Castle is a rare survivor: a heavily fortified manor house in the South Devon countryside, built and rebuilt between the 14th and 16th centuries. Behind its imposing curtain wall and machicolated towers lies a great hall, solar and restored medieval kitchen. The Gilbert family โ including the Elizabethan explorer Sir Humphrey Gilbert โ held it for generations, and their descendants live here still.
