Hartwell House
Hartwell House is a stately country house near Aylesbury, blending Jacobean and Georgian work in its long facades. For several years it sheltered the exiled French king Louis XVIII and his court, a curious chapter in its history. The grounds were laid out in the 18th century with lawns, water and ornamental temples, and the house now runs as a hotel. The parkland and exterior remain a treat for visitors.
