Duffield Castle
Duffield Castle was a powerful Norman fortress built by the de Ferrers family on a hill above the River Derwent in Derbyshire. It held one of the largest keeps in the country before being deliberately destroyed in the thirteenth century after the family's rebellion. Today only earthworks and the exposed foundations of the great keep survive, set in a small wooded site with information panels telling its turbulent story.
