Ysbyty Ifan
Ysbyty Ifan spreads across more than 8,000 hectares of upland Conwy, taking in a Welsh-speaking village, working hill farms and the open Migneint moorland. The village name means 'hospital of St John', after a medieval hospice the Knights Hospitaller set up here around 1190 for pilgrims. Today it is country for walkers: river valleys, a SSSI-protected wetland where curlews nest, and big, quiet skies.
- Vast upland moorland
- Welsh-speaking estate village
- Headwaters of the River Conwy
Best for long walks through wild Welsh hill country away from the crowds.
