Witley and Milford Commons
Witley Common in Surrey is a wide, open expanse of lowland heath and woodland — a landscape of heather, silver birch and pine that feels almost wild despite lying within easy reach of London. Part of a larger mosaic of Surrey heathland, it's an important habitat for ground-nesting birds, reptiles and rare insects, and a wonderful place to walk and clear the head on any day of the year. In late summer, when the heather blooms purple, it's quite wonderful.
