Wentworth Castle
Wentworth Castle is not a castle at all but a sumptuous Georgian country house near Barnsley, built by a family determined to outshine their rivals at nearby Wentworth Woodhouse. Its Baroque and later Palladian fronts look out over historic parkland studded with follies, monuments and a restored Victorian conservatory. The Grade I gardens, with their woodland, formal terraces and ornamental buildings, are the real glory of a visit.
