Gunby Estate, Hall and Gardens
Gunby Hall is a handsome early eighteenth-century red-brick house on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, built by the Massingberd family. Its real glory is the gardens: walled enclosures of vegetables, fruit, herbaceous borders and old roses, with parkland and woodland walks beyond. Tennyson is said to have described it as a haunt of ancient peace, and the unhurried house and grounds still earn the phrase today.
