Cronkhill
Cronkhill is a small but groundbreaking country house near Atcham in Shropshire, designed by the architect John Nash in the early nineteenth century. Often called the earliest Italianate villa in England, it has white stucco walls, an arcaded loggia and a distinctive round tower, evoking the idealised Italian landscapes of painters like Claude Lorrain. Its design influenced grand later estates, and the house opens to visitors only on a handful of days each year.
