Bourne Mill
Bourne Mill near Colchester began life in 1591 as an ornate fishing lodge, with showy Dutch-style gables built from stone salvaged from a former abbey. Later it was converted into a working watermill driven by the bourne, or stream, that gives it its name. The machinery was restored in the 1960s, and on milling days you can watch the waterwheel turn and the gears grind. A millpond and grounds make for a quiet visit.
